Monday=Music: Pete Seeger

So I had something totally different planned for this week's music post, but then last night, as I was knitting my first mitten, I watched some of Pete Seeger on PBS' American Masters, and I was completely inspired! He mobilized people on issues like civil rights, the Vietnam War and cleaning the Hudson River, just by singing about them with conviction. Where is our Pete Seeger?

I saw a bit of the PBS thing, and was also struck by what an amazing figure he was (and is, I suppose).

Unfortunately, it didn't really make me want to listen to his music. And I mean that: I wish I wanted to listen to his music.

To have a Pete Seeger today, he (or she) would have to be able to get people to sing in public. Nobody sings in public anymore. I don't particularly want to listen to Pete Seeger, but I'd very gladly sing along with him.
